The Bridging Project

Bridging Generations Through Service, Relationships and Education

The Bridging Project’s purpose is to teach younger generations about the importance of relationships with other generations, and the value of service. It helps them learn an important life lesson: it feels good to help others.

The Bridging Project
focuses on bringing together different generations through the platforms of service and relationship. Through
well-coordinated  inter-generational service projects we connect youth to area older persons and people of other generations in need of assistance, and help them to experience a “local missions project.”

Adopt-a-Grandparent Initiative:

Also through the project, we bridge youth and their older neighbors through the relation-based initiative of the Adopt-a-Grandparent program. Youth are equipped to serve by first about learning communication and listening skills. They are then matched with a ‘grandparent’ whom they ‘adopt’ and build an ongoing relationship with.

The Bridging Project began in 2006, based upon the legacy of Bridgett Stoll, a student volunteer at Faith in Action. She had a heart for service and older people, and it was a life goal of hers to develop an Adopt-a-Grandparent program in her community. Bridgett died in 2005 as a result of a car accident, but her legacy lives on in and through The Bridging Project. Since it began, well over 4,000 youth have participated; volunteering more than 20,000 hours in service to others in their community.
